BEIJING — Việt Nam always attaches importance and gives priority to developing the friendship and comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with China as well as their community with a shared future, visiting National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Trần Quang Phương told Wang Xiaohui, Secretary of the Communist Party of China Sichuan Provincial Committee on August 22.
At the meeting, both host and guest expressed delight at the positive progress in Việt Nam-China relations. Cooperation between Vietnamese localities and Sichuan has also seen outstanding results, with bilateral trade exceeding USD 14 billion last year and USD 6.6 billion in the first five months of 2025, up 30.1 per cent and 18.7 per cent year-on-year, respectively.
In the time to come, Phương expressed his hope that Sichuan will continue to implement high-level common perceptions, particularly the outcomes of recent visits and exchanges between top leaders of the two Parties and States, and to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Vietnamese ministries, sectors, and localities. The NA Vice Chairman also welcomed Sichuan’s key leaders to visit and establish friendship ties with Vietnamese localities and its legislature to boost exchanges and cooperation with the NA and provincial-level People’s Councils of Việt Nam.
He proposed that the two sides promote substantive cooperation in areas such as green economy, circular economy, digital economy, low-carbon economy, education and training, trade and investment, manufacturing and high technology, as well as transport-logistics infrastructure, particularly railways, seaports, and hi-tech agriculture.
He called on Sichuan to step up cooperation in heritage, culture, and tourism, expand scholarships, and create favourable conditions for Vietnamese students to study and conduct research at the province’s top universities. He also requested close coordination and support from its authorities for the operation of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing, which also covers Sichuan.
Wang affirmed that Sichuan treasures its friendship and cooperation with Việt Nam’s ministries and localities and is ready to work with them to effectively implement the common perceptions of the two Parties' and States’ high-ranking leaders.
Agreeing with his guest’s proposals, he stressed that Sichuan would strengthen delegation exchanges at various levels, improve practical cooperation, and encourage people-to-people exchanges.
As part of the working trip, Phương and his delegation visited the local venue for interaction between deputies and constituents, and toured several local cultural, historical, and economic sites. — VNS
